Exploring Emotion and Location Through Ambient Music

For my capstone project, I will be creating an ambient album. Ambient is a genre of music that focuses on creating sparse sonic landscapes through a variety of techniques, and I want to explore these techniques while also learning about how ambient music explores different emotions. This project will work both on borrowing ideas from famous works of ambient music while also creating ideas that are uniquely my own. I hope for this project to primarily serve the campus community, as I want it to be a reflection of living in College Park. To do this, I will heavily utilize field recordings that I capture around campus and the surrounding areas, and combine those with recordings of instruments. I hope this project will both introduce people to the genre of ambient and give them a powerful piece of music they can enjoy.
